Long Term Day Trading, Momentum Trading

This style of day trading involves identifying and trading stocks that are strong or weak all day long. The position is closed typically at the end of the trading day.

Support and Resistance, Swing Daytrading:

The name of the game is to find stocks that are not really moving but have a high volatility and a liquid market. The swing trader tries to buy near bottoms and sell at tops.

Short Term Day Trading, Scalping:

This is the most exhausting kind of day trading. It involves the rapid and repeated buying and selling of a large volume of stocks within seconds or minutes. The objective is to earn a few cents per share on each transaction while minimizing the risk. Going with the flow of the minute is the maxim.

All types of day trading need confidence: This is perhaps the most important personality trait of good day traders. You won't succeed at day trading unless you have a high measure of confidence in yourself. Lack of self confidence will result in indecision, second guessing and loss of a clear line of strategy. You will begin to miss trading opportunities, let losses run and cut instead of ride winners. You must believe in yourself when day trading. If not, you will be better off pursuing something different.
